RSVP Rutland County Reads & RSVP After School Buddies are Signature Programs of RSVP and The Volunteer Center aimed at children. Utilizing volunteers these programs seek to improve and enhance the lives of children by sharing their time and talents with our youth on a regular basis. We will work with your schedule to determine the amount of time you can offer and there is no minimum number of hours required.

What is RSVP After School Buddies?

After School Buddies is a program serving children in after school settings. RSVP/VC volunteers share their time and talents with children providing guidance and assistance in various activities. As an “after school buddy” you could provide homework assistance, share a talent or skill, work on an art project, read with a student, play games or just spend time listening to a youngster.

After School Enrichment & Homework Assistance
Volunteers work with children in after school settings such as Boys and Girls Clubs or school sponsored after school programs such as Tapestry. Volunteer activities include sharing hobbies or talents, arts and crafts, playing games such as chess, reading with children or Homework Buddies -volunteers who assist children with homework, utilizing strategies to help students achieve better organization, neatness, and completion.

What is RSVP Rutland County Reads?

Rutland County Reads is a program serving children in school settings during regular school hours. RSVP/VC volunteers participate in activities designed to enhance the literacy and reading skills of children and to encourage and nurture their desire and motivation to read. As a Rutland County Reads volunteer, there are several ways to participate:

  • Classroom Volunteers read to, share life experiences, storytell, or provide enrichment
    activities in elementary classrooms.
  • One on One Tutors provide individual assistance to selected students.
  • Lunchtime Mentors meet with students weekly to read together.
  • Books Alive Volunteers stimulate students’ interest in a special way by dressing in character to read to students.

Is Support Provided To Volunteers?

Volunteers are offered the opportunity to participate in reading workshops. The workshops act as a resource to strengthen understanding of reading and working with children, while providing a platform for connections and support to one another. In addition, as a registered member of RSVP/The Volunteer Center you will enjoy benefits that include ongoing support, a newsletter, supplemental insurance while volunteering, feedback and recognition for your work.
